Reading our US Constitution

Reading our US Constitution

What a difference a majority in the House of Representatives makes.    In the new 112th Congress, with newly elected Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), the people's house decided to read the sacred trust document that is the foundation of the American government.    Sounds a pretty good idea.    Except if you are the New York Times, or one of the many Democrat members who skipped the reading.

From American Thinker    by Michael Filozof

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2011/01/the_constitutional_hypocrisy_o.html

The fact is that the Democratic Party and the political Left in this country use the Constitution as nothing less than an instrument of pure demagoguery. When it suits them to cite it, they do; when it suits them to ignore it, they do; and when neither alternative suits them, they invent phrases out of whole cloth (e.g., "separation of church and state," "jury of one's peers," "freedom of expression," "right to privacy") that exist nowhere in the Constitution and invest these phrases with constitutional authority.

The reading of the Constitution on the House floor is neither a stunt nor a political trick. The Constitution is nothing less than the "supreme Law of the Land." Its purpose, as Madison wrote in Federalist #51, is to "oblige [the government] to control itself."

The great question of our time is this: will the public demand that government adhere to the Constitution and "control itself," or will the public not give a damn what the Constitution says as long as government provides bread and circuses?

1,900 Pages of Health Care Bureaucracy

In a ceremony at the US Capitol by Speaker Pelosi, that could only be attended by those on the invited guest list, the Democrats unveiled 1,990 pages of legislation intended by the Majority in the Congress to lead to a government take over of health care.     The public option is government healthcare.   Away with private insurance, and private "pay as you go" healthcare with options and welcome to Medicare and Medicaid on steroids.

What is the option?    The Republicans, who have been systematically denied access to the closed door Democrat negotiations among the Pelosi lead Congress, have some ideas.    www.healthcare.gop.gov
And Minority Leader Boehner (with a video clip) on the 1,900 page health care bill.

The health care bill debate goes to the floor on the Congress.     And the American people should very afraid of the government plans to reduce present program (cost cutting), increase premiums (more coverage to more folks with less money to pay), expand coverage (anyone, including non-residents) and increased government controls (under the guise of streamlining the system).     Let's see what other government success stories we have?    The Post Office?  Nope.   The GSE's (Fanny Mae or Freddie Mac)?  Nope, they went broke.   What about Indian Health Care?  Nope, it is not working very well.   What about Amtrack?   Nope, keeps losing money, even with increased subsidies.

So now the Democrats in Congress want to take over healthcare in the US?     Now is the time for the American people to say:  No, not this time.

No Member Actually Read the Bill

No Member Actually Read the Bill

By a vote of 246 (yeah) and 183 (no), the US House passed the historic (and pork laden) Federal stimulus bill. After the appropriators, big spenders and Democrat leadership made more changes in the bill, it ended up being 1,100 pages long.   It is doubtful, that except for lobbyists and Congressional staffers (who saw parts of the porkulus bill), no member of Congress actually read the whole thing.

Here is the Republican Minority leader (John Boehner) on the floor of the house:
